![]() GP practices will continue to be open during the junior doctors strike. The NHS will contact you if your appointment needs to be rescheduled due to strike action. Unfortunately these strikes will have a significant impact upon planned and routine care. We will only reschedule appointments and procedures where necessary and will rebook immediately, where possible. The NHS is working hard to prioritise resources to protect emergency treatment, critical care, neonatal care, maternity, and trauma, and ensure we prioritise patients who have waited the longest for elective care and cancer surgery. Previous industrial action by consultants saw 65,500 appointments disrupted and saw between 7,000 – 8,000 staff off per day due to industrial action. This was the longest period of strike action junior doctors have taken part in. The most recent industrial action by junior doctors saw 102,000 hospital appointments disrupted over five days. Previous action by junior doctors saw between 7,000 – 20,000 staff off per day due to industrial action. Industrial action has impacted approximately 778,000 hospital appointments across the NHS with over 458,000 staff absences due to industrial action during this time. We are now entering the ninth month of industrial action across the NHS and staff continue to work hard to provide patients with the best possible care under the circumstances. During the two days of action, BMA has advised that consultants will provide Christmas Day cover, meaning they will continue to provide an emergency care only level of service. The BMA has announced that consultant doctors will be taking strike action for 48 hours from 7:00 am on Thursday 24 August until 7:00 am on Saturday 26 August. ![]() ![]() The British Medical Association (BMA), British Dental Association (BDA) and Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association (HCSA) have announced 96 hours of continuous junior doctors’ strike action from 7:00 am on Friday 11 August until 7:00 am on Tuesday 15 August. ![]()
